Itinera Alexandri

Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam #2: Hilversum

After closing my laptop yesterday I thought of going to sleep. I closed my eyes and suddenly my phone rang. J... calling me. We talked until midnight. I thought this morning would, therefore, be a disaster.

At 6:30am my alarm went off. Another one at 6:32am. But I woke up easily! Somehow my dreams were perfectly timed to end seconds before they went off. My sleep cycle paired with my alarm time like a fruit-forward Côtes du Rhône does with a magret de canard. Impressive stuff, and totally on purpose. Drove to work with colleague, now one year older than she was yesterday. Worked for 11 hours. About 11 more than I would have liked.

Only notable item today was the food. It being the Netherlands, you probably already guessed. A selection of white bread to go with a selection of sliced cheeses. A hungry day. The Dutch were pleased though. Mustn't say I wasn't. Mustn't be honest with the Dutch. Mustn't insult their cuisine. Mustn't be rude. Sprinted to the hotel restaurant afterwards. Red meat to fill up. Tournedos this time instead of entrecôte. Delicious.

I thought this would have been a sad, gloomy day. Sad and gloomy makes me feel more creative. Makes me feel more like writing. Makes me want to play with my keyboard to express my feelings. Sadly, I can't complain about anything except the food today. Sadly, even the Dutch were quite nice today. Sadly, so was my colleague. It was raining, but when I went outside the sun shone, sadly. It felt a bit like being in the Truman Show. Sadly, I feel too tired to write more. That's how they get you. Get you busy. Get you cosy. Get you tired. No time for thinking, reading, or revolutions.
